BC Requirements For Winter Tires
There is a remarkable difference between summer and winter tires. It is crucial for drivers to know if the set of tires current on their vehicle are the right kind. Tire manufactures use a standardized method of labeling their products to let people know what they need to know. A legal winter tire in British Columbia must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum tread depth of 3.5 mm
- Feature the M+S label
- Three-peaked mountain with snowflake symbol
Some all-season tires will feature the three-peaked mountain symbol.
What is the BC Law For Winter Tires?
The RCMP and other policing agencies will be on the look out for people driving without winter tires. People who don’t have the proper tires could face fines of up to nearly $600 or be denied passage and forced to turn around. Obviously, nobody likes to get a traffic ticket, or be forced to delay their trip, but all this is done to keep people safe.
It is impossible to overstate how important winter tires are to safely driving in our province. If you need a new set of tires or some help putting your current set on for the season, make an appointment with the Downtown Tyee Service Department today.
