How to Find A Sunroof Leak?

Just like fixing any problem, it’s important to isolate the problem. Finding the location of a sunroof leak could be a two-person job. One person should sit inside the vehicle, and the other needs to spray the roof and sunroof of the vehicle with a hose. The inside person should be paying close attention to where the leaks are forming.

Tools Needed to Fix Sunroof Leak

A few tools will be needed to potentially fix a leaking sunroof or moonroof. Our experts suggest collecting:

  • Screwdriver set
  • Soap and water cleaning solution
  • Microfibre cloths
  • Soft brush
  • Silicone sealant
  • Water hose
  • Thin flexible wire

Possible Causes of Moonrook Leaks

Just like a vehicle’s doors, a moonroof has a series of seals that keep weather and moisture outside where it belongs. However, some water will seep in, but a drainage system exists to channel it to the ground and away from the interior. Some of the most common reasons leaks happen are the weather seals drying out or the drains getting blocked.

  • If the drains are blocked, you can easily locate them near the corners of the moonroof and clear the blockage with a thin wire or compressed air.
  • If the seals are dry, use a silicone-based grease, which can be used to refresh them. Damaged seals may need to be replaced.
